Wes and I have had quite the enjoyable weekend. Which is what inspired me to look back at what we were doing last summer. One of the most interesting parts about having a blog is that you have the ability to look back on life and see what you were doing each month. For example, I just looked back to last August and saw pictures from our camping trip to Panther Creek, the record breaking hot day that reached 107 degrees, and trips to the rose garden and Jameson square. Summer has been equally exciting for us this year. And if any weekend were to feel like a summer weekend, it would have to be this one. Wes and I both ended up having days off work this weekend. The family I work for went out of town on friday and Wes' house residents went camping with out him. (not an ideal situation of course but it was out of his control) So we took advantage and enjoyed the time together. Basically, we slept in until 10 each morning, stayed up until 2 each night watching movies, and spent the hours in between opening up new furniture for our living room. Which brings me to that next topic... our living room project!
Believe it or not, for the past 6 months Wes and I were mulling over the idea of moving to a new apartment (yes, in portland, lets nip that rumor in the bud). The main reason for this idea was so that we could finally fulfill our dream of owning an english bulldog, and well, because we can't have pets in our current apartment we would have to move. Plus the idea of maybe finding a place that had a garbage disposal, dishwasher, or laundry machines would be pretty amazing. We went back and forth on this for a while and after being pretty close to sold on the idea, we changed our minds. Instead of moving we are settling in a bit more, or well I guess you could say just de-cluttering, again. Its amazing how many times you can manage to get rid of more things that you don't use. This is probably due to the marriage of all things we have accumulated through out our individual life times but still... its amazing. And so, instead of moving to a new location we decided that it was time to upgrade some of the things that have needed upgrading and to toss some of the things that have been waiting to be tossed.
We are holding a funeral for the desk that Wes has had since he was little, the cheap bookshelves we bought to fit the low-ceiling-ed basement we first moved into, and eventually a funeral for the TV. This past month we planned and plotted out new arrangements for the living room. We wanted to create two spaces: one space for the sitting/movie watching, and one space for the studying. The desk never provided us with a great work space and so we are swapping the desk for a nice big table we can both sit at. We are swapping the bookshelves for better looking taller ones, and eventually a new tv for the old one which now hums when we turn it on. We are equally interested in finally getting art up in our kitchen, however, finding canvas cheap enough to fill the 4x4 foot wall space we would like to fill is no cheap endeavor.
Anyway, with all this said our apartment has been turned inside out and we have enjoyed rearranging and putting together our new furniture. We took "before" pictures to share with you once we have the "after" pictures to pair them with. Stay tuned! We love you all and hope you are enjoying your summer too!
